Firefox Performance: Fast — Faster — Fastest
Results of a SunSpider test on a Windows XP machine
Firefox 3.5 has just been released. I had installed the beta version but the problem I had was that some of the extensions such as firebug, which I really need was not working. I have just installed the released version of firefox 3.5 and I have to say that its much faster than the previous versions. Its so fast that its the first thing you realize when you upgrade. The best part is that most of the extensions are already available for 3.5. I just hope that they have finally done something about the memory leak!

In a glance this picture looks like a nuclear weapon experiment, but its not. Its a photo taken from International Space Station of Sarychev Volcano, Kuril Islands, northeast of Japan, erupting. This is first time I’m looking at a volcanic eruption from this angle, its as if I’m looking at the volcano under wanter.

Internet Wars
by Pourya Shahroudi on Jun.18, 2009, under Daily, Technology

As you may know in the past few days there has been a movement against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government in Iran. I’m not going to go into the political details since it’s not really related to the purpose of this blog, but what has been interesting in this political battle is the tension that the government and the opposition has been having on the Internet.
In Iran the government controls the media. Internet has been widely used by the opposition, most of oppositions movements have been organized using their websites on the Internet. To stop the opposition, the government has been targeting their websites by overloading their servers, also known as DOS (Denial Of Service) attacks.
On the other side the opposition have done the exactly the same. This webpage is an example of what the opposition has been doing. They have sent this URL to Iranians all over the world and have asked them to keep this webpage open in their browser. What this page does is that it reloads the websites used by the government again and again. If this is done by many people than these websites will stop responding due to the overloaded requests to the servers.
Snake Charming
by Pourya Shahroudi on Jun.18, 2009, under Daily
Snake charming is the practice of apparently hypnotizing a snake by simply playing an instrument. The practice is most common in India, though other Asian nations such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia are also home to performers, as are the North African countries of Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. Most of the practices get bitten by the snakes often before becoming a pro. Snake charming in some of these countries has become a family tradition as it is being passed from one generation to next.

Here is an open source version of Microsoft .net Sponsored by Novell. Mono is a software platform designed to allow developers to easily create cross platform applications. It is an open source implementation of Microsoft’s .Net Framework based on the ECMA standards for C# and the Common Language Runtime. ” We feel that by embracing a successful, standardized software platform, we can lower the barriers to producing great applications for Linux. “
